Agisoft PhotoScan – масштабируемая производительность процессоров Xeon и масштабирование графических процессоров

В этом году Intel выпустила новую линейку многопроцессорных процессоров под названием Xeon Scalable. В ходе нашего тестирования, проведенного в 2015 году , мы обнаружили, что в некоторых ситуациях для двухскоростных систем Xeon есть смысл для PhotoScan, но теперь, когда рабочие станции с одним процессором могут умещаться в большем количестве ядер (до 18 в серии Intel Core X), а масштабирование графического процессора, по-видимому, не приносит пользы из более чем 3-х видеокарт мы подумали, что пришло время перепроверить двойной Xeon, чтобы посмотреть, все ли они того стоят.

Методология и тестовое оборудование

Мы уже знаем, что тактовая частота процессора является важным фактором производительности PhotoScan, поэтому мы сузили объем этой статьи до двух моделей Xeon Scalable: 4-ядерного Gold 5122 и 18-ядерного Gold 6154. Анализ

Изучив графики производительности ЦП, мы увидим, как обстоят дела с процессорами Xeon Scalable:

  • Xeon 5122 не идеален для PhotoScan. У них нет достаточного количества ядер, чтобы преуспеть в шаге Build Dense Cloud, а также тактовой частоты, чтобы компенсировать потерянное время на этапе Build Mesh.
  • Xeon 6154 показал себя неплохо, с хорошими скоростями на всех этапах тестирования. Если вы сложите время, как мы сделали в сводной таблице ниже, они подошли очень близко к серии Core X … технически даже немного впереди. Однако пара вместе стоит в несколько раз дороже, чем даже самый дорогой процессор Core X.

Переходя к масштабированию на GPU, мы видим результаты, аналогичные тем, что Threadripper показал в нашей предыдущей статье:

  • Хорошее улучшение от 1 до 2 видеокарт
  • Измеримое улучшение от 2 до 3, хотя и не столь выраженное
  • Почти без разницы при добавлении 4-го графического процессора; технически это сокращение на 1-3%, но это может быть в пределах погрешности

Даже если последний удар по 4-му графическому процессору не является ошибкой, он настолько мал, что не может оправдать стоимость другого графического процессора или различных других вещей, которые поставляются с ним (более крупное шасси, источник питания с большей мощностью и т. Д.). Даже переход с 2 на 3 видеокарты несколько сомнителен, но в ситуациях, когда шаг Build Dense Cloud является более существенной частью общих вычислений – например, при использовании на этом этапе настроек «Сверхвысокого качества» – это может быть стоит.

Другим фактором, который не показан на графиках выше, является использование оперативной памяти. С относительно небольшими наборами изображений, которые мы использовали, это не проблема, но с большим количеством изображений и более высокими настройками качества это может быть важно. Это одно из преимуществ процессоров Xeon Scalable, поскольку они могут поддерживать сотни ГБ памяти каждый (в зависимости от того, сколько слотов имеет материнская плата) … но есть и менее дорогие варианты, которые также могут вместить много оперативной памяти. Мы еще не тестировали их с PhotoScan, но чипы Intel Xeon W с одним сокетом могут вместить до 512 ГБ памяти и должны работать наравне с Core X, поскольку они основаны на той же архитектуре.

Заключение
